Meet Dustin and Katrina from Tucson, AZ.
The one word that best describes Dustin's life today is "Fortunate."
The one word that best describes Katrina's life today is "Blessed."
If Dustin could change one thing in the world, he would "Help people to recognize the wonderful things around them." The way he would go about making this change is to keep his eyes and ears wide open and be aware of his surroundings and how fortunate he is and share what he is learning with others.
If Katrina could change one thing in the world, she would "Want to experience more kindness in the world." The way she would go about making this change is to be kind to others and offer a meal or a smile.
One year from today, Dustin would like to be more present in his relationships and capture meaningful moments with his family and friends.
One year from today, Katrina would like to start a non profit organization called "Angel Bug."
If Dustin and Katrina's lives were a movie, it would be about having fun and laughing as a family. It would be about working hard and making time to enjoy their family and friends. The title of their movie would be called "Does It Get Any Better Than This?"
I met Dustin and Katrina at the Main Beach basketball courts. They looked like a very nice couple and I wanted to meet them. Also, I was drawn to Dustin's cool sunglasses.
It was a little awkward for us because as I was interviewing Dustin and Katrina, I was being interviewed and photographed by "The Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot" newspaper for an article they are doing on my project of meeting one new person a day.
Nevertheless, Dustin and Katrina have a great story to tell and they were super friendly. They are visiting from Arizona and were enjoying being in the precious present while their boys were playing basketball.
We talked a lot about the value of taking time for what matters most, family and friends. Dustin and Katrina grew up in families that value relationships and being together. We all agreed that sometimes we get caught up in the "daily grind" and we don't slow down enough to smell the roses.
As I reflect on our conversation, I can see how Dustin is implementing what he wants to be doing one year from now and that is "being present and capturing meaningful moments." You're on the right path Dustin, keep doing what you are doing and one year from now you'll have a treasure chest of memories and experiences!
And Katrina is changing the world today by being kind and offering smiles during our conversation. Thanks for changing my world today Katrina, I believe you will change many lives this next year by doing what you did today!
