Day 239 of 365 "Oasis"

Meet Derek from Arizona.

The one word that best describes Derek's life today is "Present."

If Derek could change one thing in the world, he would "Bring greater awareness to environmental issues."  The way he would go about making this change would be to educate and inform others and himself.

One year from today, Derek would like to travel to Thailand and work with orphan elephants.

If Derek's life were a movie, it would be about his life as a young boy sitting in his grandparents backyard surrounded by plants, tree's and animals.  The title of his movie would be called "Oasis."

I met Derek and his friends as they were walking slowly and purposefully along the shore.  I saw the camera around Derek's neck and knew he there was something special about him.  "Most" photographers are willing to engage in conversation as was the case with Derek.

Derek and his friends are creative people who march to the beat of their own drum.  It's refreshing to meet people who think outside the box and see life from an artistic perspective.

I perceive Derek to be a sensitive young man who is compassionate and caring.  He clearly has a passion to be part of something bigger than himself.  The younger generation sometimes get a bad rap for being self centered, entitled and lazy.  This does not describe Derek and his friends.  They are not sitting around waiting for the world to serve them, they are "being the change they want to see in the world."
