Meet Josh from Paradise, Utah.
The one word that best describes Josh's life today is "Blessed." The reason Josh chose this word is because he is fortunate to be earning a living as an artist with the support of his wife and children. If Josh could change one thing in the world, he would "Want people to be less selfish and become more selfless." The way he would go about making this change is to begin with himself and become more selfless. One year from today, Josh would like to create a new collection of paintings that focus on lifestyle. If Josh's life were a movie, it would be about a selfish guy who with the help of God, slowly begins to think less of himself and more of others. The title of his movie would be called "Learning To Love." I met Josh on the rocks at Brooks St. while he was working on an original painting that will be entered into the 16th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational. Josh is one of 35 selected artist who will be competing for more than $20,000 in prizes, including the coveted $10,000 prize for "Best in Show." Sometimes I forget that Laguna Beach is an artist colony that attracts talented artists from around the world to paint the beauty of our coastal community. Had I not met Josh today, I probably would have missed the opportunity to learn about the event taking place in our backyard. Josh and I had a great conversation about the differences and similarities between fine art and photography. I learned from Josh that lifestyle art doesn't translate as it does with photography. He is hoping to carve out a niche with his next collection of lifestyle art. We talked about how human nature is selfish and self centered yet we have a desire to help others and look outward rather than inward. Even though Josh is painting in a competition to earn prizes and money, his motivation and purpose for painting is to bring joy to the person who ultimately purchase his work. Josh will be showing his work on Sunday October 19th at The Ranch in South Laguna. You can check out Josh's work at www.joshclare.com. Good Luck Josh!
